ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONS OF SCRIPTURE AND FAITH
After my grandmother passed away, my father was given a Bible as a bereavement gift from his employer, Ford Motor Company, and he gave it to me shortly afterward. The Bible was housed in a wooden case, and tucked inside the front cover was a printed copy of the Master Weaver prayer. Though I was raised Catholic—CCD classes, First Communion, all of it—I had never read that prayer before.
Something about the words stayed with me. Later in the studio, without planning or hesitation, I scrawled the prayer into the wet paint of my next abstract painting. That quiet moment became a turning point.
Since 2003, prayer and scripture have entered my abstract & mixed media paintings, collage art and assemblages intuitively—woven into the work as something felt rather than illustrated, allowed to live within the paint itself.
