WHAT IS CROSS ASSEMBLAGE ART?
Cross assemblage art is a form of mixed-media sculpture in which crosses are constructed from found objects, reclaimed materials, and fragments of lived history. Metal, wood, paper, wire, rusted hardware, broken furniture, and salvaged industrial remnants are layered together to create crosses that carry both physical and symbolic weight.
THE LANGUAGE OF THE CROSS
The cross is more than a religious symbol — it is a universal structure. Two lines intersecting: heaven and earth, matter and spirit, the visible and the invisible. Across cultures and centuries, the cross has represented sacrifice, endurance, balance, and transcendence.
By building crosses from reclaimed objects, I connect that ancient symbol to modern human experience. These materials come from forgotten places, abandoned tools, and broken systems. When they are assembled into a cross, they become something new — not polished, but powerful.
FOUND OBJECT & BRICOLAGE PROCESS
My cross assemblages are created through a process of bricolage — the art of building from what is at hand. I gather fragments of metal, wood, paper, wire, doors, machinery parts, handwritten notes, and discarded materials, then intuitively compose them into cross forms.
Nothing is fabricated to look old.
Nothing is artificially distressed.
The history is real.
